This is an original, hand-made Gyotaku of two mahi-mahi attacking a school of greenbacks. The piece was created using acrylic ink on traditional Thai Mulberry paper. Each eye was carefully painted to mimic the iridescent realism of the fish using detailed acrylic brushwork.
The print was flattened and mounted using traditional Japanese Urauchi techniques and backed with an additional layer of Thai Mulberry paper to ensure its archival quality and longevity.
This specific mahi-mahi was caught off the coast of Key West, Florida, and the baitfish featured were gifted by a local charter captain.
Each original print is hand signed and stamped with my Japanese Hanko (Name Seal), making every piece truly one-of-a-kind.
Gyotaku is a time-honored Japanese art form dating back to the mid-1800s, originally developed by fishermen to document their prized catches. Today, it serves as a captivating and artistic way to preserve memories of the sea and spark stories of adventure.
