Original Gyotaku Print – Two King Mackerel & Greenbacks | Iridescent Metallic Ink on Black Thai Mulberry Paper | One-of-a-Kind Fish Art

This is a one-of-a-kind, original Gyotaku (魚拓) print featuring two King Mackerel striking a shimmering school of greenbacks. Handcrafted using iridescent and metallic acrylic inks on rich black Thai Mulberry paper, this piece captures the raw beauty and motion of these powerful fish in a way that must be seen in person to be truly appreciated.

The eyes of each King Mackerel were painted in meticulous detail using acrylic paints to match the lifelike shimmer and depth found in the real fish. The entire piece was then traditionally flattened using Urauchi methods and reinforced with an additional layer of Black Thai Mulberry paper for both durability and presentation.

✨ Color-Changing Detail: The iridescent inks shift in color depending on the angle of light—flashing silver, blue, green, gold, and even purple—just like a real King Mackerel in motion. These vibrant effects cannot be replicated by a printer. Photos truly do not do this artwork justice.

Each print is hand-signed and stamped with my personal Japanese Hanko (name seal), certifying it as an original work.

🎣 This particular Kingfish was caught while fishing out of St. Petersburg, Florida by a close friend, while the greenbacks were gifted to me by a local fishing guide—making this piece not just art, but part of a lived fishing story.

Gyotaku is a traditional Japanese method of printing fish that dates back to the mid-1800s. Originally used as a way for fishermen to document their catches, it has evolved into a revered art form. These prints serve as both striking decor and cherished memory pieces for anglers, ocean lovers, and collectors alike.

Perfect for:
• Coastal or nautical home decor
• Gifts for fishermen or ocean enthusiasts
• Commemorating a fishing trip
• Unique, conversation-starting wall art
