Original Blue Crab Gyotaku – Hand Printed Two Crab Artwork – Coastal Wall Art on Thai Mulberry Paper

This is the original hand made Gyotaku (魚拓) print of two Blue Crabs, created using acrylic ink on Thai Mulberry paper. Each crab was printed directly from the real specimen, capturing the fine details and textures only an authentic Gyotaku can offer.

To preserve and present the piece, it was carefully wet mounted using the traditional Japanese Urauchi process, then backed with Japanese Masa paper. While most wrinkles were removed, some slight natural waves remain, adding to the handmade character of the artwork.

Each original is one-of-a-kind, hand signed, and marked with my Japanese Hanko (name stamp).

Gyotaku is a traditional Japanese art form developed in the mid-1800s as a way to record and honor notable catches. Today, it’s a meaningful way to commemorate ocean life and spark conversation.
