Original Red Snapper Gyotaku Portrait – One-of-a-Kind Fish Print on Mulberry Paper – Hand Signed Art

This is an original, hand made Gyotaku print of an American Red Snapper head, created using the traditional Japanese method of fish printing. I call this a “Portrait” — a striking, intimate view of a 31" Snapper rendered with expressive detail.

This piece was printed using acrylic ink on Thai Mulberry paper, then wet mounted using the traditional Urauchi technique and backed with white Japanese Masa paper. Please note: due to the natural handmade process, there are minor light brown discolorations along the bottom of the paper from the wood it was flattened on. This does not affect the print’s integrity or visual impact.

Each print is hand signed and sealed with my Japanese Hanko (Name Stamp).

Gyotaku is a centuries-old Japanese art form developed in the 1800s as a way for anglers to document their prized catches. Today, it offers a powerful, artistic way to capture the memory and beauty of wild sea life. These prints make excellent conversation pieces, treasured gifts, and artful reminders of time spent on the water.
