Original King Mackerel "Kingfish" Gyotaku – Iridescent Metallic Acrylic Ink on Black Mulberry Paper – Hand Signed One-of-a-Kind Ocean Art

This is an original, one-of-a-kind Gyotaku (魚拓) of a King Mackerel (Kingfish), made using shimmering iridescent and metallic acrylic inks on Black Thai Mulberry paper. The eye is painted with watercolor for an ultra-realistic look that captures the essence of this powerful pelagic species.

The paint shifts and glows with shades of silver, blue, green, gold, and purple, depending on how the light hits the surface—just like the living fish. This visual effect cannot be replicated by prints or photos—only an original piece reveals this full spectrum of color and depth.

Each piece is hand signed and marked with my Japanese Hanko (name stamp) for authenticity. This specific fish was caught off the coast of St. Petersburg, Florida by a friend of mine, making it even more personal.

Gyotaku is a Japanese art form dating back to the 1800s, created to preserve the memory of a special catch. Today, it lives on as a striking, handcrafted way to tell your fish tales and bring marine life into your space.

🖼️ Please note: This artwork is sold unframed to let you choose the perfect presentation for your style and space.
