This is an Original, Hand made American Red Snapper (ARS) Gyotaku created with acrylic ink on Thai Mulberry paper. The eye is meticulously hand-painted with watercolor to closely resemble the real fish, preserving the natural character of the catch.
Each original is individually hand signed and sealed with my Japanese Hanko (name stamp). The original you receive will be one of the prints shown in the listing photos—please select your preferred version when ordering. Original 3 is printed on undyed Korean Mulberry paper and has a warm, tan appearance with visible natural fibers.
This Red Snapper was speared off the coast of Sarasota, Florida in 127 feet of water. Measuring 29 inches, it's the largest ARS I’ve landed to date and a memorable catch.
Gyotaku, a traditional Japanese method of fish printing that originated in the mid-1800s, was developed to preserve and document the size and detail of a prized catch. Today, it stands as a striking form of marine art that carries the spirit of the ocean into your home.
🖼️ Please note: This original artwork is sold unframed, allowing you to choose a frame that complements your space and personal style.
